Summary
Both moxifloxacin and lofexidine prolong the QT interval. Used together they may increase the risk of torsades de pointes, and lofexidine also causes bradycardia and hypotension that add to arrhythmic risk.
What this interaction means in plain words
Lofexidine and Moxifloxacin can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Lofexidine belongs to Central Nervous System; Moxifloxacin belongs to Anti Bacterial.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation, with lofexidine-induced bradycardia increasing proarrhythmic susceptibility.
What to do
Avoid the combination if possible; otherwise obtain a baseline ECG, monitor QTc and heart rate, and correct electrolyte abnormalities.
What to ask your pharmacist
