Summary
The live MMR vaccine can cause disseminated vaccine-virus infection in patients immunosuppressed by lomustine, and the antibody response may be poor.
What this interaction means in plain words
Lomustine and Measles mumps and rubella vaccine live are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Why it happens
Cytotoxic immunosuppression impairs control of live vaccine virus replication and reduces the immune response.
What to do
Do not give during lomustine therapy; defer until immune recovery, generally at least 3 months after stopping. Check immunity serologically afterwards if needed.
