Summary
Thioridazine causes marked dose-related QT prolongation and is contraindicated with other drugs that prolong the QT interval. It also inhibits CYP2D6, which can increase maprotiline concentrations and further raise the risk of torsades de pointes.
What this interaction means in plain words
Maprotiline and Thioridazine are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Maprotiline belongs to Central Nervous System; Thioridazine belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation with CYP2D6 inhibition by thioridazine increasing maprotiline exposure.
What to do
Do not use together. Choose an alternative antidepressant or antipsychotic without significant QT liability.
