What this interaction means in plain words

Methamphetamine and Norepinephrine can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive adrenergic stimulation, with methamphetamine increasing synaptic norepinephrine.

What to do

Titrate norepinephrine infusions carefully using continuous blood pressure and ECG monitoring. Anticipate lower dose requirements in patients who have recently used methamphetamine.
