Per cosa si usa

Come agisce

Mechanism in MS is not fully understood; thought to act by modifying immune processes believed responsible for MS pathogenesis. Animal and in vitro studies suggest induction and activation of glatiramer acetate-specific suppressor T-cells in the periphery.

Dose abituale nell'adulto (sintesi del foglio illustrativo)

Relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis: Glatopa 20 mg per mL, subcutaneous, once per day

Gravidanza e allattamento

Gravidanza
Unknown Pharmacovigilance and observational data have not identified a drug-associated risk of major birth defects, miscarriage, or adverse outcomes; no adverse effects in rats or rabbits.
Allattamento
Unknown No data on presence in human milk; low systemic exposure means clinically relevant infant exposure is not expected. Weigh benefits of breastfeeding against maternal need.

Effetti indesiderati segnalati

  • Injection site erythema
  • Injection site pain
  • Injection site pruritus
  • Injection site mass
  • Vasodilatation

Avvertenze in evidenza

  • Life-threatening and fatal anaphylaxis has been reported, and can occur at any time after starting therapy, from after the first dose to years later. Make patients aware of symptoms, which may overlap with immediate post-injection reaction, and instruct them to seek immediate medical care. Contraindicated in patients with prior hypersensitivity, including anaphylaxis. If anaphylaxis occurs, discontinue immediately and permanently unless a clear alternative etiology is identified.

Controindicazioni

  • Known hypersensitivity to glatiramer acetate or mannitol; reactions have included anaphylaxis.

Chi deve prestare attenzione

  • Immediate post-injection reaction (flushing, chest pain, palpitations, tachycardia, anxiety, dyspnea, throat constriction, urticaria) may occur within seconds to minutes after injection; usually transient.
  • Transient chest pain may occur, often unrelated to injection.
  • Lipoatrophy and rarely skin necrosis may occur at injection sites; lipoatrophy is thought to be permanent. Use proper technique and rotate sites.
