Sintesi
Eluxadoline slows gut transit and can cause constipation and pancreatitis-related events, and atropine adds antimuscarinic suppression of gut motility. Together they raise the risk of severe constipation, ileus and related complications.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Atropine and Eluxadoline can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Atropine belongs to Miscellaneous; Eluxadoline belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract.
Perché avviene
Additive inhibition of gastrointestinal motility through opioid receptor agonism (eluxadoline) and muscarinic blockade (atropine).
Cosa fare
Avoid routine coadministration. If an anticholinergic is needed, monitor for constipation and abdominal distension and stop eluxadoline if severe constipation develops.
