Sintesi
Vitamin D increases intestinal calcium absorption, so combining it with calcium supplements can raise serum and urinary calcium. At usual doses the combination is intended and safe, but excessive doses or predisposing conditions can cause hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria and kidney stones.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Calcium Carbonate and Cholecalciferol can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Calcium Carbonate belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract; Cholecalciferol belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Perché avviene
Pharmacodynamic: cholecalciferol, via calcitriol, enhances active intestinal calcium absorption, adding to the calcium supplied by calcium carbonate.
Cosa fare
Use the lowest doses that meet requirements and avoid combined excessive intake from diet, supplements and fortified products. Monitor serum calcium, and urinary calcium or renal function where there is a history of stones, CKD or high-dose vitamin D.
