Sintesi
Deutetrabenazine depletes monoamines by inhibiting VMAT2, and combining it with an MAOI is contraindicated per labeling. The pairing may cause unpredictable blood pressure and heart rate changes and can destabilize mood or autonomic control.
Cosa significa questa interazione in parole semplici
Deutetrabenazine and Tranylcypromine are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Deutetrabenazine belongs to Central Nervous System; Tranylcypromine belongs to Central Nervous System.
Perché avviene
VMAT2 inhibition alters monoamine storage while MAO inhibition prevents breakdown, producing unpredictable adrenergic effects.
Cosa fare
Do not coadminister, and wait at least 14 days after stopping an MAOI before starting deutetrabenazine. Use another treatment for chorea or tardive dyskinesia if an MAOI is required.
