概要
Bupropion is contraindicated with MAO inhibitors because of the risk of hypertensive reactions and neurotoxicity. Labeling requires at least 14 days between stopping an MAOI such as phenelzine and starting bupropion. Seizure risk may also be raised.

Bupropion inhibits noradrenaline and dopamine reuptake while MAO inhibition increases catecholamine stores, producing excessive adrenergic stimulation; bupropion also lowers seizure threshold.

Do not combine; wait at least 14 days after stopping phenelzine before starting bupropion, and at least 14 days after bupropion before starting phenelzine is a conservative approach. Use a different smoking cessation or antidepressant strategy during MAOI treatment.
