概要
MAO inhibitors given with opioids can cause serotonin syndrome or unpredictable opioid toxicity, including respiratory depression and coma. The risk persists for about two weeks after the MAOI is stopped.

Nonselective MAO inhibition raises serotonergic and noradrenergic activity and may alter opioid effects, causing serotonin toxicity or CNS depression.

Do not use hydrocodone during or within 14 days of an MAOI; choose a non-opioid or non-interacting analgesic. If an opioid is unavoidable, use closely monitored small test doses.
