Gravidez e amamentação

Gravidez
Unsafe Crosses the placenta. 1st-trimester use is linked to rare birth defects (scalp skin defects, oesophageal or choanal atresia, abdominal wall defects). Propylthiouracil is usually preferred in the 1st trimester, then methimazole. Use the lowest dose; monitor maternal and fetal/newborn thyroid.
Amamentação
Safe Passes into milk, but a long-term study of 139 mothers found no infant toxicity, and doses up to 20 mg daily do not affect infant thyroid function. LactMed: some experts consider it the antithyroid drug of choice; take it right after a feed. US label: monitor thyroid function.
