What this interaction means in plain words
Amiodarone and Sevoflurane can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Amiodarone belongs to Cardiovascular; Sevoflurane belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Additive QTc prolongation and additive negative chronotropic and hypotensive effects.
What to do
Review the preoperative ECG and correct electrolytes before surgery. Monitor ECG continuously during anesthesia and have pacing and antiarrhythmic rescue ready.
