Amisulpride and Fenoldopam: moderate interaction.

For healthcare professionals — reference only. This page is a brief summary, not medical advice and not a substitute for official labeling or clinical judgement. Always verify before prescribing or dispensing.

Summary

Fenoldopam is a peripheral dopamine D1 agonist and amisulpride blocks dopamine receptors, so the effects may oppose each other. Amisulpride's D2 blockade does not clearly counter fenoldopam's D1-mediated vasodilation, and fenoldopam does not cross the blood-brain barrier, so the clinical significance is uncertain.

What this interaction means in plain words

Amisulpride and Fenoldopam can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Theoretical pharmacodynamic antagonism at dopamine receptors; fenoldopam acts mainly on peripheral D1 receptors while amisulpride is a D2/D3 antagonist.

What to do

Monitor blood pressure response to fenoldopam when amisulpride is on board and titrate the infusion accordingly. Consider another antihypertensive if the response is inadequate.

What to ask your pharmacist
