What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine and Calcium gluconate can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Amlodipine belongs to Cardiovascular; Calcium gluconate belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract.
Why it happens
Increased extracellular calcium pharmacodynamically opposes calcium channel blockade.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure and serum calcium when intravenous calcium gluconate is given to a patient on amlodipine. Anticipate a reduced antihypertensive effect during treatment.
