Summary
Succinylcholine can transiently raise serum potassium, while hydrochlorothiazide commonly lowers it. Electrolyte disturbances and thiazide-related hypokalemia may alter neuromuscular blockade and increase arrhythmia risk during anesthesia. Anesthetic agents may also add to hypotension with the antihypertensive combination.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-hydrochlorothiazide-valsartan and Succinylcholine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Amlodipine-hydrochlorothiazide-valsartan belongs to Cardiovascular; Succinylcholine belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Why it happens
Opposing effects on serum potassium and altered neuromuscular response in electrolyte disturbance.
What to do
Check potassium before elective procedures and correct abnormalities. Monitor ECG, electrolytes and neuromuscular function perioperatively.
