Summary
Amphotericin B often causes hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia, which sensitise the myocardium to digoxin. This can precipitate digoxin toxicity with arrhythmias even at normal serum digoxin levels.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amphotericin b and Digoxin can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Amphotericin b belongs to Anti Fungals; Digoxin belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Electrolyte depletion (potassium, magnesium) from amphotericin B increases digoxin cardiac sensitivity.
What to do
Monitor potassium and magnesium frequently and keep them in the normal range with supplements. Check digoxin levels and ECG, and watch for signs of toxicity.
