Summary
Golimumab blocks TNF-alpha and basiliximab blocks the IL-2 receptor on activated T cells, so using them together produces broader immune suppression. This raises the risk of serious bacterial, fungal, viral and opportunistic infections.
What this interaction means in plain words
Basiliximab and Golimumab can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Basiliximab belongs to Miscellaneous; Golimumab belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Why it happens
Additive pharmacodynamic immunosuppression through TNF blockade and IL-2 receptor antagonism.
What to do
Avoid routine combination unless clearly justified, for example in a transplant setting under specialist direction. If used together, monitor closely for infection and stop golimumab if a serious infection develops.
