Summary

Low molecular weight heparins can suppress aldosterone synthesis, and together with an ACE inhibitor this may produce hyperkalemia. The risk is higher with renal impairment, diabetes or prolonged heparin use.

What this interaction means in plain words

Benazepril and Dalteparin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Benazepril belongs to Cardiovascular; Dalteparin belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Heparin-induced inhibition of adrenal aldosterone secretion adds to ACE inhibitor-related reduction of aldosterone, impairing potassium excretion.

What to do

Check serum potassium and renal function, particularly in high-risk patients or when heparin is continued beyond several days.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Should I take them at different times of day?
