Summary
Naproxen can reduce the diuretic and natriuretic response to bumetanide and may cause fluid retention. In vulnerable patients the combination can also contribute to acute kidney injury.
What this interaction means in plain words
Bumetanide and Naproxen can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Bumetanide belongs to Cardiovascular; Naproxen belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Why it happens
NSAID inhibition of renal prostaglandin synthesis reduces renal blood flow and loop diuretic natriuresis.
What to do
Monitor weight, edema, blood pressure and renal function, and increase the diuretic dose if response is diminished. Avoid NSAIDs in heart failure or volume depletion where possible.
