What this interaction means in plain words
Calcium and Ethacrynic acid have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Calcium belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract; Ethacrynic acid belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Inhibition of the loop of Henle Na-K-2Cl transporter reduces paracellular calcium reabsorption, increasing calciuria.
What to do
Check serum calcium during prolonged or high-dose diuretic therapy and replace calcium if hypocalcemia occurs.
