Summary
Antibiotics were theorized to lower oral estrogen levels by disrupting enterohepatic recirculation. Pharmacokinetic and epidemiological data show no consistent effect for non-rifamycin antibiotics, so any risk is very low.
What this interaction means in plain words
Cefadroxil and Estradiol have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Cefadroxil belongs to Anti Bacterial; Estradiol belongs to Endocrine.
Why it happens
Theoretical reduction of gut bacterial deconjugation of estrogen conjugates, decreasing enterohepatic recirculation.
What to do
No action is generally required. Advise patients to report breakthrough bleeding or loss of symptom control.
