Summary
Boosted darunavir strongly inhibits CYP3A4 and can greatly increase lovastatin exposure, with a high risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Use together is contraindicated.
What this interaction means in plain words
Darunavir and Lovastatin are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Darunavir belongs to Anti Virals; Lovastatin belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Darunavir with its booster inhibits CYP3A4, blocking lovastatin metabolism.
What to do
Do not combine. Choose pravastatin or rosuvastatin at a low starting dose instead.
