Summary

Dasatinib is a weak inhibitor of CYP3A4 and may modestly raise verapamil exposure. Verapamil is itself a moderate CYP3A4 inhibitor and may raise dasatinib concentrations. Either change may increase adverse effects such as bradycardia, hypotension, or myelosuppression and fluid retention.

What this interaction means in plain words

Dasatinib and Verapamil can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Dasatinib belongs to Oncology; Verapamil belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Mutual CYP3A4 inhibition, with verapamil as a moderate inhibitor and dasatinib as a weak inhibitor, raises exposure to both drugs' substrates.

What to do

Monitor heart rate, blood pressure and PR interval, and watch for dasatinib toxicity such as cytopenias and pleural effusion. Reduce the dasatinib dose or choose a non-inhibiting antihypertensive if toxicity develops.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Should I take them at different times of day?
  • Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
  • Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
