Summary

Dasiglucagon may transiently raise heart rate and blood pressure, and beta-blockers may blunt the catecholamine-mediated part of its glycemic response. Glucagon-type agents given to patients on nonselective beta-blockers can produce unopposed alpha effects with hypertension and reflex bradycardia.

What this interaction means in plain words

Dasiglucagon and Timolol can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Dasiglucagon belongs to Endocrine; Timolol belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Beta-blockade opposes catecholamine release stimulated by dasiglucagon, with a possible transient pressor effect.

What to do

Monitor blood pressure, heart rate and blood glucose after dasiglucagon administration in patients on timolol, and be ready to give additional glucose if the response is inadequate.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Should I take them at different times of day?
  • Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
  • Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
