Summary

Thiazides and oral diazoxide both raise blood glucose, and diazoxide also has hypotensive and sodium-retaining properties. Combined use can worsen hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia and hypotension. The thiazide is also used to counter diazoxide-related fluid retention, so the pairing is sometimes deliberate.

What this interaction means in plain words

Diazoxide and Hydrochlorothiazide-lisinopril can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Diazoxide belongs to Miscellaneous; Hydrochlorothiazide-lisinopril belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Additive hyperglycemic effects (diazoxide suppresses insulin secretion via K-ATP channel opening; thiazides impair glucose tolerance) plus additive vasodilatory and hypotensive effects.

What to do

Monitor blood glucose, blood pressure and electrolytes, particularly when starting or changing doses. Adjust diazoxide or antidiabetic therapy as needed.
