For healthcare professionals — reference only. This page is a brief summary, not medical advice and not a substitute for official labeling or clinical judgement. Always verify before prescribing or dispensing.

Summary

Elagolix is a substrate of OATP1B1, and inhibitors of this transporter markedly raise its plasma concentrations. Telmisartan is not generally regarded as a strong OATP1B1 inhibitor, so the contraindication is probably an overextension of the class warning and the clinical significance is uncertain.

What this interaction means in plain words

Elagolix and Telmisartan can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Elagolix belongs to Musculoskeletal; Telmisartan belongs to Cardiovascular.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Possible inhibition of OATP1B1-mediated hepatic uptake of elagolix, which is not well established for telmisartan.

What to do

Monitor for elagolix adverse effects such as hot flushes, headache and liver enzyme elevation. Reassess if symptoms or liver test abnormalities develop.
