Summary

Thiazide diuretics can impair glucose tolerance and may reduce the glycemic benefit of liraglutide. ACE inhibitors may slightly enhance glucose lowering. Liraglutide-related nausea, vomiting or diarrhea with volume depletion can also raise the risk of acute kidney injury with an ACE inhibitor and diuretic.

What this interaction means in plain words

Enalapril-hydrochlorothiazide and Liraglutide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Enalapril-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Liraglutide belongs to Endocrine.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Thiazides reduce insulin sensitivity while ACE inhibition may improve it, giving variable glycemic effects; GI fluid losses add renal risk.

What to do

Monitor glycemic control and renal function, particularly when starting or changing doses. Advise maintaining hydration during GI side effects.
