Summary

Vortioxetine, like other serotonergic antidepressants, can impair platelet function and raise the risk of bleeding. With enoxaparin the bleeding risk, particularly gastrointestinal, may be higher.

What this interaction means in plain words

Enoxaparin and Vortioxetine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Enoxaparin belongs to Cardiovascular; Vortioxetine belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Vortioxetine inhibits platelet serotonin reuptake and so reduces platelet aggregation, adding to the anticoagulant effect of enoxaparin.

What to do

Monitor for signs of bleeding such as bruising, melaena or haematuria, especially in older patients or those with other bleeding risks. Consider gastroprotection when risk is high.

What to ask your pharmacist
