Summary
The combination product already contains hydrochlorothiazide, so adding a separate hydrochlorothiazide duplicates therapy. This increases the risk of hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypotension, volume depletion and metabolic effects.
What this interaction means in plain words
Eprosartan-hydrochlorothiazide and Hydrochlorothiazide can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Eprosartan-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Therapeutic duplication of the thiazide component gives an exaggerated diuretic and electrolyte effect.
What to do
Avoid concurrent use of separate hydrochlorothiazide with the fixed-dose combination and adjust the regimen to a single thiazide source. If a higher thiazide dose is needed, change doses of the combination instead and monitor electrolytes.
