Summary
Posaconazole may increase exposure to the ergot alkaloid components of ergoloid mesylates. This could produce ergot toxicity with vasoconstriction and ischemia.
What this interaction means in plain words
Ergoloid mesylates and Posaconazole are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Why it happens
Posaconazole inhibits CYP3A4 and thereby reduces metabolism of ergot alkaloids.
What to do
Avoid concomitant use. Stop ergoloid mesylates or select an alternative antifungal.
