Summary

Tipranavir, given with ritonavir, strongly inhibits CYP3A4 and can markedly raise systemic fluticasone furoate and vilanterol levels. This may cause cardiovascular beta-agonist effects and corticosteroid effects such as adrenal suppression.

What this interaction means in plain words

Fluticasone-vilanterol and Tipranavir can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Fluticasone-vilanterol belongs to Respiratory; Tipranavir belongs to Anti Virals.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

Ritonavir-boosted tipranavir inhibits CYP3A4, reducing clearance of both inhaled components.

What to do

Monitor heart rate, potassium and QT-related symptoms, and watch for Cushingoid features or adrenal suppression; consider an alternative inhaled steroid such as beclomethasone for long-term use.
