Summary

Ribociclib inhibits CYP3A4 and may raise systemic mometasone exposure, increasing the potential for corticosteroid adverse effects. Ribociclib and formoterol may also both prolong the QT interval. With inhaled mometasone the systemic effect is usually small.

What this interaction means in plain words

Formoterol-mometasone and Ribociclib can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Formoterol-mometasone belongs to Respiratory; Ribociclib belongs to Oncology.

Evidence level: Moderate

Why it happens

CYP3A4 inhibition by ribociclib reduces mometasone clearance, and both ribociclib and formoterol have additive QT-prolonging effects.

What to do

Monitor ECG and electrolytes, and watch for signs of systemic corticosteroid excess with prolonged use. Consider an alternative inhaled steroid with less CYP3A4 dependence if needed.

What to ask your pharmacist

  • Should I take them at different times of day?
  • Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
  • Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
