Summary
Androgen deprivation therapy with goserelin can prolong the QT interval, and ofloxacin has a smaller QT-prolonging effect of its own. Together they may raise the risk of torsades de pointes, particularly with electrolyte disturbance or cardiac disease.
What this interaction means in plain words
Goserelin and Ofloxacin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Goserelin belongs to Endocrine; Ofloxacin belongs to Anti Bacterial.
Why it happens
Additive prolongation of cardiac repolarization (QT interval) through different pharmacodynamic pathways.
What to do
Correct hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia and obtain a baseline ECG in patients with other QT risk factors. Consider an antibiotic with less QT effect if risk is high.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
