Summary

Isavuconazole is a moderate CYP3A4 inhibitor and haloperidol is partly metabolized by CYP3A4, so haloperidol exposure may increase. This could heighten adverse effects including QT prolongation and extrapyramidal symptoms. Isavuconazole also shortens the QT interval, which may partly offset the QT risk.

What this interaction means in plain words

Haloperidol and Isavuconazonium can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Haloperidol belongs to Central Nervous System; Isavuconazonium belongs to Anti Fungals.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Inhibition of CYP3A4-mediated haloperidol metabolism by isavuconazole.

What to do

Monitor for extrapyramidal symptoms, sedation and QTc changes, and consider lowering the haloperidol dose if adverse effects arise.
