Summary
Iloperidone is itself an alpha-blocking antipsychotic and a weak CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 inhibitor. Combining it with tamsulosin may add to orthostatic hypotension and raise tamsulosin levels.
What this interaction means in plain words
Iloperidone and Tamsulosin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Iloperidone belongs to Central Nervous System; Tamsulosin belongs to Genitourinary.
Why it happens
Additive alpha-1 adrenergic blockade plus inhibition of CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 metabolism of tamsulosin.
What to do
Monitor orthostatic blood pressure, especially during iloperidone titration. Reduce the dose of either drug if dizziness or syncope occurs.
What to ask your pharmacist
