What this interaction means in plain words
Iloperidone and Ziprasidone can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Iloperidone belongs to Central Nervous System; Ziprasidone belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation through cardiac potassium channel blockade, plus additive dopamine antagonism and sedation.
What to do
Avoid concurrent use; ziprasidone labeling advises against combination with other QT-prolonging drugs. If a switch is underway, cross-taper and monitor ECG and electrolytes.
