Summary
Triptorelin, like other androgen deprivation therapies, can prolong the QT interval. Combined with inhaled indacaterol, which can have beta-agonist effects on heart rate, QT and potassium, the risk of ventricular arrhythmias including torsades de pointes may rise. The risk is greatest with electrolyte disturbances or existing cardiac disease.
What this interaction means in plain words
Indacaterol and Triptorelin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Indacaterol belongs to Respiratory; Triptorelin belongs to Endocrine.
Why it happens
Additive QT prolongation: androgen deprivation lengthens repolarization while beta2-agonism may add effects on heart rate and serum potassium.
What to do
Check baseline ECG and correct hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia in patients with cardiac risk factors. Monitor the QTc and for palpitations or syncope during co-therapy.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
