Summary

Stiripentol causes somnolence and sedation, and isoflurane is a potent CNS depressant. Together they may deepen sedation or slow recovery from anesthesia. Stiripentol also inhibits several CYP enzymes, but this has little bearing on inhaled anesthetic elimination.

What this interaction means in plain words

Isoflurane and Stiripentol can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.

Isoflurane belongs to Central Nervous System; Stiripentol belongs to Central Nervous System.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Additive central nervous system depression, with stiripentol enhancing GABA-A mediated inhibition.

What to do

Titrate isoflurane to the depth of anesthesia required, using processed EEG monitoring if available, and watch for delayed emergence. Continue stiripentol as prescribed in epilepsy and monitor sedation and respiration postoperatively.
