Summary

Oxaliplatin causes neurotoxicity and, less often, kidney injury, and its nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity are far weaker than those of cisplatin. Oral neomycin is poorly absorbed, so additive kidney or ear injury is unlikely unless absorption rises through mucositis or renal impairment.

What this interaction means in plain words

Neomycin and Oxaliplatin have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.

Neomycin belongs to Anti Bacterial; Oxaliplatin belongs to Oncology.

Evidence level: Low

Why it happens

Theoretical additive nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity that requires systemic aminoglycoside absorption.

What to do

No routine action is needed. Monitor serum creatinine if the patient has renal impairment, mucositis or prolonged neomycin use.
