Overview
Oxcarbazepine (CYP3A4/UGT inducer) may reduce ondansetron exposure, potentially decreasing antiemetic efficacy.
Mechanism of action
Pharmacokinetic: induction of CYP3A4 (and possibly UGT) increases ondansetron metabolism.
Clinical management
Monitor control of nausea/vomiting; if efficacy is inadequate, consider increasing ondansetron dose/frequency or using an antiemetic less impacted by CYP3A4 induction.
