Summary
Ozanimod's active metabolites are formed and cleared through pathways involving MAO-B, and the labeling advises against use with MAO inhibitors. Procarbazine's MAO inhibition could alter exposure to these metabolites and may raise the risk of a hypertensive reaction. Procarbazine also adds immunosuppression and myelosuppression to the effects of ozanimod.
What this interaction means in plain words
Ozanimod and Procarbazine are not normally used together. Taking them at the same time is expected to cause harm or make one of them unsafe, so a different medicine is usually chosen for one of the two.
Ozanimod belongs to Central Nervous System; Procarbazine belongs to Oncology.
Why it happens
MAO inhibition may alter ozanimod metabolite exposure and increases the risk of a hypertensive reaction through added sympathomimetic effects.
What to do
Do not use together. Allow at least 14 days between stopping either drug and starting the other.
