Summary
Tedizolid is a weak reversible MAO inhibitor and palonosetron is a 5-HT3 antagonist, and serotonin syndrome has been reported with 5-HT3 antagonists given alongside serotonergic agents. The risk with this particular pair is probably low but cannot be excluded. Features include agitation, tremor, hyperthermia and neuromuscular excitability.
What this interaction means in plain words
Palonosetron and Tedizolid can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Palonosetron belongs to Gastrointestinal Tract; Tedizolid belongs to Anti Bacterial.
Why it happens
Possible additive serotonergic effects, with weak MAO inhibition by tedizolid; the mechanism for 5-HT3 antagonists is not firmly established.
What to do
Monitor for signs of serotonin syndrome when the two are used together, especially after dose changes. Stop both and give supportive care if symptoms appear.
What to ask your pharmacist
