Summary
Sufentanil is a very potent opioid that causes dose-related sedation and respiratory depression. Papaverine adds little CNS depression itself, but the combined effect on alertness and blood pressure may be somewhat greater, and the opioid's risks dominate.
What this interaction means in plain words
Papaverine and Sufentanil can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Papaverine belongs to Cardiovascular; Sufentanil belongs to Musculoskeletal.
Why it happens
Possible additive CNS depression and vasodilatory hypotension on top of sufentanil's opioid effects.
What to do
Monitor sedation level, respiratory rate and blood pressure, and titrate sufentanil to effect. Ensure appropriate monitoring and resuscitation capability in the setting of use.
