Summary
Teriflunomide inhibits CYP2C8 and also affects BCRP. Pitavastatin is only minimally metabolized by CYP2C8, so a significant effect through that route is unlikely. Any increase in exposure is likely modest and would be mediated by transporters.
What this interaction means in plain words
Pitavastatin and Teriflunomide have a small, usually unimportant interaction. Most people can take both; the pharmacist may still mention it so that any unexpected effect is recognised.
Pitavastatin belongs to Cardiovascular; Teriflunomide belongs to Central Nervous System.
Why it happens
Teriflunomide inhibits CYP2C8 and BCRP, which may slightly raise pitavastatin exposure, although pitavastatin is cleared mainly by hepatic uptake and glucuronidation.
What to do
No routine dose adjustment is needed. Ask patients to report unexplained muscle symptoms.
