Resumo
Glucarpidase hydrolyzes folates and antifolates such as methotrexate, and can degrade folic acid and related folate compounds like leucovorin. Folate rescue given around glucarpidase may therefore be less effective.
O que esta interação significa em palavras simples
Folic acid and Glucarpidase can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Folic acid belongs to Miscellaneous; Glucarpidase belongs to Miscellaneous.
Por que acontece
Glucarpidase is a carboxypeptidase that cleaves the terminal glutamate residue from folates, inactivating them.
O que fazer
Do not give leucovorin within 2 hours before or after glucarpidase, since it is a substrate, and continue folate rescue as directed by the protocol afterward.
O que perguntar ao farmacêutico
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?

The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken. Glucarpidase hydrolyzes folates and antifolates such as methotrexate, and can degrade folic acid and related folate compounds like leucovorin. Folate rescue given around glucarpidase may therefore be less effective.
How serious is the interaction between Folic acid and Glucarpidase?
MediHelp rates it moderate, on a four-level scale (minor, moderate, major, contraindicated) based on published labels and references. What to do, in brief: Do not give leucovorin within 2 hours before or after glucarpidase, since it is a substrate, and continue folate rescue as directed by the protocol afterward.
