What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-olmesartan-hydrochlorothiazide and Clarithromycin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Amlodipine-olmesartan-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Clarithromycin belongs to Anti Bacterial.
Why it happens
Clarithromycin inhibits CYP3A4-mediated metabolism of amlodipine, increasing its plasma concentrations.
What to do
Monitor blood pressure and renal function during the clarithromycin course and for several days after, especially in the elderly. Consider an alternative macrolide such as azithromycin if feasible.
