Summary
Ethacrynic acid is a potent loop diuretic that, with hydrochlorothiazide, can cause marked volume depletion, hypokalemia, hyponatremia and hypotension. Olmesartan adds to the hypotensive and renal risk through reduced glomerular filtration pressure.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-olmesartan-hydrochlorothiazide and Ethacrynic acid can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Amlodipine-olmesartan-hydrochlorothiazide belongs to Cardiovascular; Ethacrynic acid belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Additive diuretic-induced electrolyte loss and volume depletion, combined with ARB-related reduction in glomerular filtration pressure.
What to do
Monitor serum electrolytes, renal function and blood pressure, and reduce diuretic doses if volume depletion occurs.
What to ask your pharmacist
