Summary
Heparins, including low molecular weight heparins, can suppress aldosterone secretion and raise serum potassium. With an ACE inhibitor this may cause clinically important hyperkalemia, especially in renal impairment, diabetes or with prolonged use.
What this interaction means in plain words
Amlodipine-perindopril and Enoxaparin can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Amlodipine-perindopril belongs to Cardiovascular; Enoxaparin belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
Heparin inhibits adrenal aldosterone synthesis, adding to ACE inhibitor-related reduction in potassium excretion.
What to do
Monitor serum potassium and renal function in patients on prolonged or high-risk enoxaparin therapy with perindopril.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
