What this interaction means in plain words
Avanafil and Dutasteride-tamsulosin can interact in a way that may be serious. Using them together is sometimes necessary, but it needs a deliberate decision by the prescriber, a plan for monitoring, and clear advice on the warning signs to watch for.
Avanafil belongs to Genitourinary; Dutasteride-tamsulosin belongs to Genitourinary.
Why it happens
Additive vasodilation from alpha-1 adrenergic blockade and PDE5 inhibition.
What to do
Ensure the patient is stable on the alpha-blocker before starting avanafil, and begin with the lowest avanafil dose. Counsel on orthostatic symptoms and avoid dose escalation if hypotension occurs.
