Summary
Ranolazine inhibits P-glycoprotein and may raise bosutinib concentrations, increasing gastrointestinal, hepatic and hematologic toxicity. Bosutinib itself can also prolong QT, which adds to the concern.
What this interaction means in plain words
Bosutinib and Ranolazine can affect each other. The combination is often manageable, but it may need a change of dose, a change of timing, or extra checks while both are taken.
Bosutinib belongs to Oncology; Ranolazine belongs to Cardiovascular.
Why it happens
P-gp inhibition by ranolazine reduces bosutinib efflux, plus additive QT effects.
What to do
Monitor for bosutinib adverse effects, liver tests and ECG. Reduce the bosutinib dose if toxicity occurs.
What to ask your pharmacist
- Should I take them at different times of day?
- Does the dose of either medicine need to change?
- Is there anything I should avoid, such as alcohol or certain foods, while on both?
